Happy June! With all that is going on in the world, I’d like to focus on something small that can create a big impact: kindness. It won’t fix all things that are troubling, but it can lift spirits, and I’m sure we can all use that boost. There are moments I remember where strangers and loved ones did something kind for me and it totally shifted how I felt.

One time, on a long, crowded, uncomfortable international flight, a young girl on the plane gave me a tiny hand written note that said, “You’re really pretty.” I thought it was the sweetest thing, and it completely changed the tone of my day. I had been feeling impatient and exhausted from travel, and this brought a smile to my face. Another time, a close friend offered to pay for my massage as they knew I had been going through a stressful time. I was so grateful to receive that treat.

As we go about our days, it’s so easy to get caught up with responsibilities and falling into the negativity of things happening around us. These things are real and can’t be ignored. At the same time, I hope we can still find ways to operate with kindness to bring some light to the challenging aspects we go through individually and as a collective.

Being the giver of a kind act puts you in a state of abundance, and receiving kindness makes you feel grateful. The positive effects go on and on. Compliment a stranger, write a thank you card, or max out the parking meter even if you only need it for fifteen minutes. It might be just what someone needs to lift their spirits on a tough day.

Here’s your friendly reminder to be kind to others and most importantly to yourself. It never goes out of style. Hope you treat yourself to awesome yoga and self-care this month at the studio!
