Sept. 2022

"That is what compassion does. It challenges our assumptions, our sense of self-limitation, worthlessness, of not having a place in the world, our feelings of loneliness and estrangement. These are narrow, constrictive states of mind. As we develop compassion, our hearts open."

~Sharon Salzberg

Happy September! Hope you are staying cool in this heat wave! I've never been more ready for Fall.

The other day, I was messaging a friend through Instagram, and she mentioned that she was going through a tough time. We see each other more on social media than we do in real life, so of course, I had no idea. She didn’t go into detail of what was going on and didn’t have to. It was a reminder to me that we really never know what other people are going through.

Others have often asked me if I ever get mad or upset or annoyed— they don’t see that side of me. Of course I do! No matter how much yoga and meditation one does, we are all human. We all go through difficult times and uncomfortable emotions. No one is exempt. I do my best keep boundaries on oversharing, especially in professional settings. But just like everyone else, I experience anger, sadness, grief, and the full spectrum of challenges that a human has to navigate.

We only truly know our own personal experience. What it’s like to live another’s life is something we’ll never understand, and therefore shouldn’t make assumptions about. The best thing we can do is to walk through this life with kindness and compassion, knowing that in all moments, others around us may be fighting battles that we have no idea about.

In our classes and community offerings this month, there are awesome opportunities to dive in to healing and connection. Hope to see you soon at the studio!
