“Stress is a disconnection from the earth, a forgetting of the breath.”
~ Natalie Goldberg

The past month seems to have been busy with travel for many, with spring break, along with a few of our teachers (including myself) leading yoga retreats. Travel has always been important to me— a way of experiential learning and gaining new perspectives.

Before I moved to LA, I spent almost 6 months traveling abroad. I noticed an interesting pattern with the other American backpackers that I met along the way. Almost everyone I met from America seemed to have resorted to long-term travel after experiencing burnout, usually from a high-stress career or a toxic relationship. Traveling seemed like a hitting a reset button that they desperately needed.

This wasn’t the case with travelers from other countries, who were usually taking a long vacation (which is normal in their culture), or a gap year amongst the younger crowd. It made it clear to me that there’s a big part of our culture and capitalism that influences people to work and live with so much imbalance and unhealthy stress.

Perhaps you can relate to this, yet I also hope that you can see this is not the only way to live. We don’t have to be burned out and completely depleted before allowing ourselves a break. There are ways to create boundaries to maintain our well-being. Yoga can be a part of keeping ourselves balanced, as can travel, and really anything that lights you up. Whatever it is that makes you feel excited about life— I hope you make time for it!

This month, we have wonderful classes every day, and great community events— including a new breathwork class and fun ladies’ clothing swap! Hope to see you soon at the studio.

Take care and stay healthy!

With Love + Gratitude,
