Happy August! Last month, I was able to work on a couple of cool projects with other yoga companies, including being a part of Manduka’s launch of their newest collection of yoga gear. You’ll currently find me on many of their marketing materials, including website and social media. I’m honored to be featured with this global yoga brand.
You may not be able to tell in the photos and videos— but during this shoot I was sick, very tired, and pretty stressed out. Along with long drives for travel, there were very early mornings, long days, and lots of work to complete for other projects I had lined up. I share this to make the point that you never really know what someone else is going through. Although the photos and videos captured look serene, I was doing my best and also very energetically depleted during this time.
A couple of weeks ago, we started our teacher training program. One of the many things we touched upon is the importance of being kind, especially when holding space for others, like when leading a yoga class. I’ve been humbled when others have vulnerably shared with me about the challenges they were facing while showing up for yoga. There’s often so much we don’t see, and hardships can easily linger beneath the surface of what seems to be apparent.
In yogic philosophy, within the 8 limbs of yoga, there’s a principle of ahimsa, or non-violence. This may also be thought of as kindness to all beings. We hope that your yoga practice instills compassion and reminds you to be kind to those around you, while reflecting that kindness to yourself as well.
