"It is strange, but true, that the most important turning points in life come at the most unexpected times and in the most unexpected ways."

- Napoleon Hill

Happy January! Hope 2023 has been treating you well so far!

Last weekend I led a class on New Year’s Day, and really enjoyed starting the year with yoga. One of the things I invited people to reflect on was the following question: “What are some positive things that happened unexpectedly in the past year?”

In posing this question, I wanted to emphasize the unexpected aspect— to remind us all to be open to the pleasant surprises of life. We can plan and prepare for our lives all that we want. Things will still take us by surprise. Some of the best things are often spontaneous and unexpected.

At the beginning of the year, there can be a push to set resolutions and goals. These are great practices to help focus what we’d like to accomplish. At the same time, I do believe that there’s benefit to having softness and flexibility with the things we desire, as life often takes a path we didn’t even know was a possibility.

It’s a part of they joy of life, to be open to what’s unfolding without our control. It’s not always the most comfortable thing to surrender into flow and lean into trust. I hope we can all learn to do that a little bit more, creating space for the miraculous to find its way in.

To start the new year, we have lots of awesome classes and events coming up! Hope to see you at the studio soon!
